Skardu Airport

The Director-General (DG) of Civil Aviation has determined to start international flight services at Skardu Airport. DG Civil Aviation has also strived to make Skardu Airport operational for international flights by July of this year. Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) gets special permission.

Actions will be taken to make Skardu Airport useful in all seasons and a modern Cat-I system will be introduced on the runway. The Cat-I system will make it possible to land aeroplanes even in bad weather.

The main runway of Skardu Airport is 12,000 feet long, the secondary runway is 8,500 feet long and work has already begun to extend the airport.

Skardu Airport has been working only on domestic flights for 71 years. Pakistan International Airlines Airbus 320 has also arrived at Skardu Airport. It is one of the highest airports in the world, placed at an elevation of 7,000 feet.

By Air

The only Airline that operates between Islamabad and Skardu which Pakistan International Airline (PIA). The Aerial distance from Islamabad to Skardu is 292 km, the flight time is about 1 hour and 15 minutes and the flight fare is almost Rs 22,000 (Pakistani Rupees).

By Bus

If you are a budget traveller, you can go by bus from Islamabad/Rawalpindi. The bus will go on the way to KKH (Karakoram Highway N 35) and it takes 36 hours to Skardu. The bus fare is about Rs 5000 (fares can vary).
